Measuring the Carbon Footprint of CEDER & HOF Awards 2026

At CarbonTool, we believe sustainability conversations become significantly more valuable when supported by measurable data. That is why we were proud to continue our collaboration with CIJ Europe for the 2026 edition of the CEDER Conference & Exhibition and HOF Awards, helping calculate and analyse the event’s carbon footprint.

As one of the largest real estate industry events in Romania and Central & Eastern Europe, CEDER brings together developers, investors, consultants, occupiers and service providers for a full day of discussions, networking and business opportunities. With sustainability remaining a central topic across the event, measuring its environmental impact became an important part of the conversation itself.

A More Transparent, Data-Driven Event

Throughout the event, attendees were invited to scan a dedicated QR code and submit information about how they traveled to the venue. This allowed CarbonTool to calculate commuting emissions based on real participant data rather than assumptions, while also encouraging attendees to better understand the environmental impact of their mobility choices.

The initiative helped create a more accurate and transparent emissions assessment, covering both operational event activities and participant-related impacts.

What Was the Event’s Carbon Footprint?

The total carbon footprint of CEDER & HOF Awards 2026 was:

2,049 kgCOâ‚‚e

The footprint included all major event-related emission categories, with the following breakdown:

• Food & beverages: 1,090 kgCOâ‚‚e (53.2%)
• Commuting: 87 kgCOâ‚‚e (4.2%)

• Organizers’ work: 234 kgCOâ‚‚e (11.42%)
• Electricity: 233 kgCOâ‚‚e (11.37%)
• Waste: 206 kgCOâ‚‚e (10.05%)
• Event materials: 199 kgCOâ‚‚e (9.71%)

As with many professional events, catering and transport-related activities represented the largest share of emissions, highlighting the importance of mobility patterns, procurement decisions and operational planning in reducing environmental impact.

Insights from Participant Mobility Data

The commuting data collected during the event revealed an encouraging trend toward lower-impact mobility choices.

Around 28% of attendees submitted their commuting information, and of those participants, more than 76% chose lower-impact transport methods such as biking, walking or public transport.

The results are particularly notable given that this year’s edition welcomed more international attendees compared to previous years, naturally increasing the potential for higher transport-related emissions. Despite this, the data reflects growing awareness around sustainable mobility and a stronger openness toward lower-carbon commuting alternatives within the real estate community.

Turning Sustainability Into Measurable Action

Beyond the numbers themselves, the initiative aimed to make sustainability more tangible and participatory. By involving attendees directly in the data collection process, the event created a stronger connection between individual decisions and collective environmental impact.

Carbon footprint assessments like this help event organizers better understand where emissions originate and identify opportunities for future improvements, whether through mobility planning, supplier choices, material optimization or participant engagement strategies.

Looking Ahead

CEDER & HOF Awards 2026 demonstrated how sustainability can move beyond discussion and become integrated into measurable operational practices. Understanding emissions is the first step toward reducing them, and transparent carbon accounting provides the foundation needed for more informed and responsible decisions.

At CarbonTool, we are glad to support organizations and events that choose to measure their impact and transform sustainability commitments into real, data-driven action.

Sustainability is not just discussed. It is measured.
